The problem we walked into.
A rental counter's worst day is a double booking: two customers, one bike, and a deposit already taken from both. It happens because availability is tracked in a notebook and confirmed over WhatsApp. Meanwhile the staff member doing it is standing at a counter, on a phone, on a connection that comes and goes.
How we framed it.
One source of truth for whether a vehicle is free — if the system says available, it is available, with no second opinion anywhere in the product. Everything else was designed thumb-first for a phone: the walk-in flow beats feature breadth, and every screen has to survive a bad connection.
What we shipped.
A rental business in one app: vehicles, availability, bookings by the hour through to the month, deposits and advances, handover records with photos, and running totals of what each customer still owes — plus a public page where customers can see the fleet and enquire.
- Availability that is never double-booked, from one source of truth
- Rent by hour, half-day, day, week, month or a custom period, priced automatically
- Deposits, advances, dues and overdue tracking across cash and mobile money
- Handover records with photos, so damage disputes have evidence
- A public page per company, and a staff app that works on a slow connection
GadgetOS — retail software for electronics shops
Every handset tracked as its own device, with warranty history and trade-in intake — for phone and electronics retailers who sell serial numbers, not quantities.
